Re-posting

I am re-posting the following because it was mysteriously deleted rather than answered (one commenter did suggest third party software might be the problem, but I hadn't installed any).

Hello!

In December I bought an xperia J. The speaker did not work.

Eventually the repair shop did fix it under warranty; they also offered this information and advice:

1) "The malfunction was not present already at the time of purchase but became apparent only during usage."

2) "An examination of the device indicates signs of usage that were not in accord with the user manual."

I have two questions:

1) How can I prevent future malfunctions without "usage" - i.e. if I don't use the phone, how will I be able to discern that it does not work?

2) Since no details were given about "signs of usage [...] not in accord with the user manual," could someone please make suggestions about how I might adapt my behaviour towards the phone?

That's not what they're saying. What they are saying, is that at the point of sale, the issue was not present, however, through how YOU have used the phone, the phone has entered the state it was in.

Do not root it, no unlocking the bootloader, don't drop it, don't submerge in water or allow to become wet, do not modify it, do not use unapproved accessories, don't attach stickers or labels to it, do not modify essential system files, do not use unapproved chargers, do not flash recoveries or custom ROMs. There is probably more, but that is what I can think of right now.
