Re: 10.1.1.A.1.253 Has Been Hidden

"THE FIRST MESSAGE OF THIS DISCUSSION HAS BEEN HIDDEN. THIS CAN HAPPEN IF THE MESSAGE HAS BEEN HIDDEN BY A MODERATOR, OR HAS BEEN REPORTED AS ABUSIVE."

The above has been applied to a simple question placed in the original thread entitled "Re: 10.1.1.A.1.253 Not in UK".

The thread can now be found at http://talk.sonymobile.com/message/470756#470756

Moomin14's question simply asked whether anyone in the UK had received the 10.1.1.A.1.253 update on an unbranded phone in the U.K.

Hardly abusive - and certainly not worthy of being hidden.

I don't know whether this has happened because of moderator intervention or overzealous policing by self-elected members - either way I feel the action to be both unjustified and totalitarian.

Anyone who has spent £500 or more on an unbranded handset in order to bypass the often lamentable delays in firmware updates inflicted upon branded handsets is, IMO, perfectly entitled to question why, in this instance, Sony seem to have gone against the preceived norm.

So, in an effort at openness, clarity and transparency the responses to the original post are below.

Please feel free to respond in an adult and responsible manner in order to ensure that the fate of the original thread is not duplicated.

No is the short answer.

If it was branded owners complaining I've no doubt Sony would blame the providers for the delay.

But since we're talking unbranded then the blame for the delay sits firmly at Sony's door.

Hence...no reply from Sony other than a general sticky stating that various regions get it at different times - a sticky which has now disappeared...

Not only the UK but Germany also seems to have been overlooked / ignored / forgotten.

The thread at XDA is now 41 pages long (and counting) regarding this issue and is summed up by my own reply to another thread on this forum regarding the .253 firmware.

"Sony have broken the unwritten rule that unbranded>branded for firmware updates."

Why is anybody's guess.

Perhaps this thread should be stickied?

Yup, & more & more users (those who may consider buying sony phones in the future) will come here & realise this problem & not bother to buy this or any other future Sony phone due to their stupid release technique.

If that's what Sony wants, then theyre going the right way about it. It was released on the 14th/15th in some countries, so it  has actually been 2 weeks where a lot of us still haven't received.

True, I do not understand this policy, it should be available at the same time globally, at least the differences should be smaller. It is available in Poland...

Interesting...

http://developer.sonymobile.com/downloads/xperia-open-source-archives/open-source-archive-for-build-...

Are the UK and Germany etc not going to get .253?

Are Sony prepping a different version?

As it would appear .273 and .307 exist.

Admitedly, these firmwares may indicate different branded devices - but the download specifically states Xperia™ Z (C6602,C6603).

As users we will, undoubtably, be the last to know.

I bought an unbranded UK xperia Z on release via expansys in the end of February. I got the first firmware update soon after (about a month) which addressed the infamous "bricking". After that update, a really interesting update that addressed camera performance among other things was released, but not for unbranded Uk xperia Z. Is there a "legal" reason for this? Why would sony "harm" the customers who bought the device for full price?
