This may also be related to hardware, if a replacement SIM does not work, and it has not been trimmed down, then you may want to contact Sony Mobile Customer Care. They should be able to help.
Micro sim- not trimmed.
If that's the case, follow the instructions above, they should be able to help.

I am having the same problem last 6 weeks eventhough I have the phone over 2 years now. Have you found any solution for this problem? It seems it is happening in the area of low or no gsm signal (unfortunatelly location of my office).
