Yes I also have this problem where there is still screen touch activity by my face even when screen proximity sensor has dakened the screen.
It is especially annoying also when the screen does not come back on once the call isfiished so you cannot hang up. Have to press poweron and then hang up.
Changed it to power button ends call but now if i need to look up a contact or email during a call I cannot as the power button to wake the phone ends the call.
Have taken off my screen protector to see if that helps and it makes no difference.
On a seperate note I am getting touch screen glitches in typing and when entering my pattern to unlock which I also thought might hae been the sceeen protector but it is still doing it.
OK Here's the solution .
It caused by the proximity sensor on the top of the screen on the left side. You can see it if you look carefully .
The problem either the sensor itself is not working, or your screen protector make your sensor works crazy which make the sensor always ON.
Remove your screen protector or your tempered glass then try to make a call .
Problem Solved.
If its still the same, the hardware (proximity sensor) has problem .
.... you are welcome anyway .

Any solution? It's irritating for calls: I can't interact with any menu (fully black permenantly) until they hang up. I'm a huge Sony fanboy, this is so disappointing as a loyal customer ever since their Walkman and PS1 in the 90's.
Two things to try one of which is the last option
One - Try an app preferences reset - Settings then Apps then tap the 3 dots then Reset app preferences then reboot and test but this will reset things like your preferred ringtone back to stock
Two - Performing a system repair using PC Companion will often fix issues - This will factory reset your phone and erase all data so best to backup before you begin
Switch off your phone and unplug from Pc (Hold volume up and power for around 10 seconds)
Start PC Companion and select Support zone then Update my phone/tablet then in Blue Repair my phone/tablet and follow the on screen instructions - When prompted connect your phone still switched off holding volume down or back button - This should start the repair or reformat process
If you are using Windows 8/8.1 or a 64bit operating system then adjust the settings for PC Companion and run in compatibility mode and chose Windows 7 or XP
I can't start up the phone anymore - not a mere minor feature broken - as it states I must complete the software repair; however, whenever I attempt to perform a software repair, I receive the following message

Can I restore my phone to the previous state whereas it was operable at least? I have a very important trip to Hong Kong approaching soon and I need my phone to be available!
Normally I would say perform a system repair but as that seems to be the issue then the only suggestion is to follow this guide - Ignore the title but do follow the guide
