Problems updating Android Xperia C1505

Hello

I hope you can help. I have tried updating Android 4.1.1 It just says could not update. I have downloaded 11.3.A.2.13 using WiFi and PC cable several times and it fails after restart every time. I have no idea why.

Thanks

Tom

Have you unlocked your bootloader or rooted your device?

Hi thanks for getting back.

I have checked that the boot loader is set to Yes. Is there a way of checking the rooting without using a rooting tool?

Do you get any pop up of modified software when you connect your phone to PCC?

PC Companion (PCC)

Bridge (for Mac)

No. It hasn't been rooted.

Rooting its not the same as unlocking the bootloader, unlocking the bootloader doesn't grant you root access either.

Have you tried a different computer?

But do post a screenshot of the error on PCC

Its been a while since i tried that method.

Would you like me to try it and check for any messages? I am away from home at the moment and don't have a reliable cable.

I have 2 computers. They are both running on Ubuntu. I have a windows install on this computer but the drivers aren't installed properly, and HP support is terrible, which is why ended up with ubuntu. One of the problems with this PC with Windows is that there are no network drivers. Not even generic ones will work. So without those, I can not connect to the internet to download the new Android update to attempt with PCC, to screen dump the response to show on here.

It would be nice if there was an Ubuntu version of Sony's PCC for updating the phone. Seeing as Android is a Linux OS you would think that would be quite natural. I have investigated this, and the most reliable way seems to be run a virtual machine to run windows to the run PCC. But it won't update Andriod. Apparently.

So, it would seem my options are

1. download the drivers for Windows using Ubuntu. Most reliable way I found was a hacking site with every possible conceivable system driver totally 30Gb

2. buy a new computer, but not from HP

3. find a friend with windows

4, convince Sony to write an Ubuntu version for Xperia PCC

5. try and work out if you can down load the Andriod update using Ubuntu, copy it to my Windows drive. Then reboot in wondows and try PCC

6. Give up and spend these hours of my life following the teachings of Guru Nanak for a more fulfilling and happy life. Or renounce all technology and live in a cave next to a lake.
