I'm having having a problem with my Xperia Arc: Yesterday evening out of nowhere, the phone wouldn't allow me to send or recieve texts or calls, claiming there was a "Connection problem or invalid MMI code.".
I searched online to see if anyone else was having problems like this and found something in these forums that was the exact problem I was having, so I followed the instructions given by the moderator in that thread: I've both soft and hard reset the phone, downloaded and installed a new version of android and also the software update from the Sony Ericsson PC Companion but nothing has worked, it won't even connect to my service provider now (o2).
The phone can tell me who the sim is registered with but I keep getting a notification that the "Network is not available". I'm at a complete loss as to what to do now, I know it isn't my sim as I have put it in another phone and it works perfectly, I have tried a couple of other sims in the phone and had the same problem.
I did buy it second-hand, but it was working perfectly fine for around 3 weeks up until last night.
Is there anything further I can try before I resign to returning the phone to the place I bought it?
EDIT: I have also spoken to my service provider and they say there are no problems on their end. Is it possible that because I have bought this handset second-hand that the person that initially sold it to the shop where I bought it has now reported it stolen and had it blocked?
do you have a SIM password? if you do remove it
settings -> location & security -> sim lock (remove it)
go to settings -> sony ericsson -> internet settings
do you have another SIM card that you can test, or another smartphone that you can test your SIM card with ?

Removed the sim password but seem to be having problems downloading the internet settings as I'm running on payg and the phone doesn't seem to want to update these settings via wlan, only by Data traffic, which I guess it can't do as it is refusing to actually connect to my service provider?
Yes to both of your questions, I have tried my sim in my parteners HTC and it works just fine, however no sim, o2 or otherwise, will work in my Arc at present.

Have created both of these but still nothing, it just doesn't want to connect and is telling me the selected network is not available.
Is there any specific reasons why these erros occur? I'm not much of a techy when it comes to mobiles so wouldn't have the first idea.
I think the issue might be your SIM card, borrow one from someone else with a smartphone or get a new one

Follow uli's suggestion and try another SIM.
Because this sounds like a problem with the SIM card or at the operator.
