Problem with X10i firmware update

(Sory for my english i'm not native)

Hello,

3 months ago, I bought a SE x10i in a regular cellphone store in center of brussel (Belgium), it's not a simlocked phone

because it's prohibited to sell a simlocked phone in belgium ( E.G. all iphone bought in belgium are "sim free")

... Actualy my problem is that i tried several time to update my firmware

from R1FA014 to newer version but it has never worked (Message= You already have the lastest version... blalba).

I discovered  yesterday (by readings forum) that i own a "BRANDED" phone, i don't why/how/ because i have bought

a generic phone???

What can i do?? I don't want debranding beacause it's too risky, at least not for now, I see it only as a last resort

That my actual settings:

Version de bande de base: 1.0.14
Version du noyau: 2.6.29-rel
                              semc-android@SEMC #2
Numéro de build: R1FA014

simple debrand and update, go to the XDA-developer website, just remember that update from an x10i wont work on an x10a.... once you find out where your from is from just debrand it.  good luck youd be fine there is nothing to it

Assuming that  i debrand my X10i ,

if later  i had to reset the phone (for a reason or another), the cellphone will:

     *  turn back to my branded firmware (like it's out of the box)

     * or it's done definitly, i mean i will keep the debranded firmware forerver at least not until i  changed it myself

Note that i had a x10i white (before meeting thieves) and now i bought a new one (but black this time) , and the only

differences between these phone are bookmarkts, starup page of web navigator and the branded haven't youtube & serve.me application

Thanks for your help anway i 'll waiting the answer from SE support, maybe they can do it;

Are you trying to get OTA update? if so, then download SEUS to your PC and try to update it through there, it will work. Do NOT use PCCompanion http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/support/phones/topic/updateserviceapplication/xperiax10?cc=gb&lc=en

I've allready tried it. It give me the same answers: You have the last version...

the fact is  my  x10i is a branded phone whereas it come from a regular store

and it's supposed to have a generic firmware,

ok, this is what I would do, first back up everything, then run SEUS and one it tells you that you already have the latest update, click REPAIR, then once its done, shut it down, take the battery out, turn it back on, then run seus again and see if you get the update.

Well, thanks to everbody,, , i tried everything and i have no answers from SE support service. :-(, i assume changing a firmware shouldn't be so difficult for them...

My opinion is that they sold "branded" phone like a "generic" phone to retailers, maybe they had  a stock problem at this time, whatever that's not my problem anymore..

Back from vacation .... i will imediattly  use my "6 months hidden defect warranty"  (seethis if you"re outside of EU:  http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/bargains-and-rip-offs/article.html?in_article_id=487304&in_page_id=5 )

And i defintly don"t want try somethind dangerous that could brick the phone,  as i paid 500 € fr this phone.

Hi resetme,

It is possible to have a variant with branded firmware even though the phone is unlocked.  This type of firmware will have modifications at the brand's/service provider's request, so they would have to approve any updates released and the phone would not benefit from generic firmware releases that had not been customised for that specific variant.  It is not considered a fault of the phone, however.

Thank you for answering me, I problably din"t explain correctly my situation,

I bought a black x10i in a shop called covema ( the covema store located in Westland Shopping center in bruxelles),

It's a famous store in belgium because they are always the first store  to sell new stuff (like ipad, iphone4, etc... )

The problem is that my phone seem to be  a Mobistar x10i http://eshop.mobistar.be/en/Handset-shop/Sony-Ericsson-Xperia-X10-black/invt/9031688)

, because i found Mobistar (name of Orange in Belgium) portail link in the webbrowser bookmarkt.

The homepage is also different, because on the generic x10i it's a sony ericsson homepage.

Serve.me application  is also missing.

The problem  is that i bought a generic x10i, and i don"t know how it  is possible???

Mobistar phone have a special box and are only sold in mobistar store.

I know this company they don't care of their customers, and i wouldn"t their phone, even on sale for 50%.. 😕

I can bet they won"t release any update before  Sept 2011 (check forums if you don"t believe me),

I will  return the phone for "hidden defect", that's all i can do, because even if debrand my phone to have a new firmware

it will automaticly return to my older R1FA014, if i had to reset the phone??. we don"t know if it will be possible to do a debranding

..
