That sounds quite odd. First of all I would suggest you to repair the software in the tablet using PC Companion:
http://www.sonymobile.com/update
In PC Companion, press start on Support Zone > Start on Update the phone/tablet software > Press the blue link that says "Repair phone/tablet". Follow the instructions in the program.

Try to rotate your tablet before restoring any backup to see if the problem persists or not.
