My phones glass on the back broke when I dropped it from 2cm at work onto my workdesk.
This is a clear production fault and I have read several accounts of this happening both in here and in other comments.
I think it's sensible to gather it all in a joint thread in order to make Sony acknowledge it.
Please add your voice if it happened to you.
This probably won't be covered by warranty unless someone admits to it within Sony.
On a sidenote I would like to know from someone at Sony if the broken glass on the back makes the phone not water resistant.
Why create a new thread when you have replied and can see answers here - 10minutes prior to this thread been made it was 1cm now it's 2cm and as for the waterproof ability myself and others have said to have your device inspected
Because the other thread doesn't have a title that implies what this really is about.
Also, we as consumers shouldn't be burdened with having to inspect our devices and having no phone for weeks
(possibly just to find out that we have to pay twice for our new phone because there is no way to prove the incident) when this is clearly a production issue.
The only way to make this a swift replacement for us and putting the responsibility back where it belongs is to get an account of how many is experiencing this.
With this thread that will quikcly become appearant if it is a real problem.
If not Sony has nothing to worry about do they?
By the way, 1cm or 2 cm - its a figure of speech and a technicality. In any event a cheap point to make.
If you ask me even 20cm should still not be a problem if this device is to be used by human beings. As i said, I dropped it intentionally on my workdesk - it wasn't an accident but an intentional placement)
Kind regards
As we are a user led support forum meaning we are user/owners of devices like you and not Sony employees means we are unable to answer such questions and have no influence to be able to acquire the answer - You need to contact Xperia care http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/support/contact-us/
The thread wasn't really about asking questions.
(Apart from the sidenote about whether the broken glass back voids the water resistance).
This forum is the intuitive place to visit if you own a Sony mobile and also THE logical place to raise a voice if one wants to figure out how many people are experencing an issue or to share experiences around such a subject.
Sending e-mails on your own individually to some supportcenter only makes it easier to shove the problem under the carpet.
I do not know whether you have any affiliation with Sony or not
- but if you are not affiliated I cannot see why this thread would offend you so much.
By the way, I changed the title of this thread to make it more nuanced/sympathetic.
I agree it was a bit bombastic
I believe as long as the housing of your phone doesn't show any marks of abuse, such as chipping, deep scratches and heavy scuffs, then you might be able to get it repaired under warrenty.
About the water resistance, as long as the crack cannot be felt even with your nail, and as long as the glass isn't chipped, it shouldn't influence the water resistance because such cracks are way too thin for water to get through.
I have a cracked backside too. Sad, after 3 days, never droped, handled with care. I have started the repair process.
Hope this will be handled as warranty case.
Mine's cracked too. Seriously, what kind of junk is this??
Never again Sony, never again.
