Powering the phone when navigating

I have a constant problem with at least one Z1 - I intend to try with the other one in the hope of tracking down the problem - in that when I am using the phone as my in-car navigator, a message appears saying that the connected power source is not strong enough - and, indeed, the battery depletes. On a long journey or if not starting from a full battery, this could result in the phone going off. The car power unit I am using is supposed, when only one device is connected, to be able to supply 3.1 amps - I have tried on both the iPhone and Galaxy Tab sockets. Either this is not enough or (my theory) the phone just isn't bothering to take it. I will report back after my next long journey - I will be trying the other phone. However, any other advice offered in the meantime will be welcome.

The issue is the navigation software due to GPS which is a high consumer of battery power and as the power output from a car is 1amp compared to 1.5amps which is needed then although some charge is getting there it is still depleting albeit at a slower rate

You say the power output I am getting in the car is only 1 amp - maybe, from some chargers, but on mine it's just over 3 and STILL no good. I maintain that the phone just isn't drawing it.

This problem is affecting both of my phones.

Is this something that is being taken seriously? I will have to think carefully about whether to choose another Sony if this is not resolved in future models...
