Possible Malware?

Hello.

First off, i'd like to let you know how unhappy it makes me that i can't contact Sony directly with a question, but am forced to go through this forum.  I work in customer service and, like my customers, would like to receive immediate support.

My question is this.  This afternoon, around noon, i received what appeared to be a text message.  The text icon appeared in the notification bar.  When i pulled the notification bar down, the text message alert disappeared.  There was no new chat in my messaging.  Immediately after that, i received a battery notification in my alerts area of my notification section which i had never seen before.  I ran AVG anti-virus and it found nothing.  I ran addon detector and couldn't see anything amiss.  I got the battery notification again at about 7 this evening, after having charged and then used my phone for a while.  Then, about a half hour ago, i got another alert in my notifications bar that said "updates available".  I clicked on this and it opened a window asking if i wanted to search for updates now.  I closed the window.

I have had my Xperia for about three or four months at this point and have ICS 4.0.4.  When i do a software update through my settings menu, it says that there are no new updates available.  Is this normal?  If not, how do i remove the malware if neither AVG nor addon detector can find it?

I have never heard of this before but what you could do is to reinstall the phone software using SUS and formatting any SD card to make sure nothing is still there.
