Please. Dummy instruction on how to reverse an android upgrade

Hi

I have asked this question before a while ago and all I got was a bunch of links to other messages that were outdated, Or a bunch of instructions that really you could only understand if you knew what they were talking about.

I started this post to ask for help to reverse an Android upgrade I made over a year ago to my Xperia Arc S. I was very happy with it when using it from store bought. I think it was Android version 2.3. I went onto PC Companion one day and it suggested I upgrade the Adnroid, so I did. It upgraded to version 4.0.4. This had bascially rendered my phone unusable. It was so slow that my phone calls will divert to voice mail before the disply would come up. Plus a million and one other bugs it gave.

So I am desperate to return it to a lower Android version.

I think this means I have to root the phone. I think rooting the phone means accessing the core root folder as at store bought, it is locked from accessing...

I hope someone can help. But please keep it simple, like I'm a dummy. I've seen so many info flowing around and I can not understnad it...

Rooting is all I know. Terms I've seen that I just don't understand are:

bootlegger

flash tool

ftf files

I red on one post that the flash tool is used to root the device, but then I saw on another post that if you want to use the flash tool make sure you haven't rooted the device or ever want to root the device.

So please if we could use this post as a instruction guide for dummies on how to root your device and downgrade the android version.

Btw, I have already upgrade the phone to it most up to date. So please keep any info on updating away. Unless it is needed for the requested advice.

Thanks in advance.

After a week of research I realised this. I still maybe wrong because all the theads and sites you links were not easy to understand.

The flashtool is the program to run to install the firmware.

The ftf files are the firmware files.

I did a week of research on finding the flashtool, because honestly, I could not. undertand the links you provided for the flashtool. Most of the links were to other threads, which were lengthy and about detailed stuff I couldn't understand. I couldn't just shuffle through and find "what I thought" was a download to a flashtool

A lot and I mean a lot of links took me to a page that tried to automatically download something called ivivid or something like that. I was wondering if that was the flashtool. But I was very confused. Cause I really didn't think it was. I couldn't be sure so I cancelled it...

Now that I understand that I require the firmware (ftf file). I know also understand that I have to find the right one to correspond to the version I want.

However!!! I can not find the early version. All I'm finding for my device (Xperia Arc S) are current and updated versions, which is what I don't want.

I have to point out that this is not a regular users community forum.

This is a Global Support Forum for people who have purchased the official Sony Model device. PC Companion takes me here. And if I was to go directly to the Sony site, the steps to get to "support" takes me here. And I have allocated the correct country I am in. So that to me means this is a first point of call for support on Sony devices.

You really shouldn't be treating it as your own personal chatting forum to exchange update information with skilled users. Cause this forum is directed as a buyers support forum.

If you disagree or if you don't want it to be like that, you really should contact someone with the right authority in Sony Headoffice to set it up properly.

Thanking you
