playing videos

i have transferred videos from my phone but they won't play on my computer as it says windows cannot open the file. i phoned the phone company and they said i had to download a codec so i can play the videos.i have tried this but it played havoc with my computer so i uninstalled it but dont know if i did it right. can anyone advise please?

mp4 is a common media file,why can't she open it? You should use some kind of file converter app then.
