Phone heating up too much while charging.

Now days my Xperia P is heating up too much while charging.It's heat up so much while charging that i can barely carry it in my hands.Will this affect my device?What should i do?

Its probably an app acting up, does it happen when you turn off your phone and then charge it?

I will try tomorrow by charging the phone while it is switched off & than let you know.

Please also inspect the charging port and cable for any damage or anything blocking up the area.

Charging port & cable are in absolutely fine condition.
