Phone Hang ('Process system has stopped working' Notification)

So I haven't updated to KitKat yet (because of the bug issues i've read) and today my phone acted up...again. Previously my phone hanged and the display went bat**bleep** crazy like spazzing between two panes so I did a system repair using PC Companion. Everything was pretty much fine until today. It was on sleep for a couple of hours and when did the pattern thing to unlock it just froze so I start swiping the screen and pressing the power button. Eventually a message pops up and says 'Process system has stopped working' so I press ok and nothing happened

After pressing the power button for 5 seconds, the screen went black and i waited a minute or 2 and then it started up again. But this time my wallpaper is totally gone (just one of the xperia wallpapers) and the wallpaper is now black. Everything else seems to be working fine. I booted it up in safe mode but the background/wallpaper is still black...

I would've attempted another system repair but I can't because PC Companion offers to update to the new Kit Kat (which I don't want right now seeing all the bug issues that came with it)

Hope someone can help. Thanks.

You should either try a repair with SUS,see if it offers 4.3 or kit kat.If not working, try to manually reflash 4.3:

What do you mean by 'manually reflash'?

And is a repair with SUS different with PC Companion?

Sorry total noob here. Never had a smart phone before this.

Sony update service is an update engine,PC companion more of a file explorer.About the flashing,it means you are installing by yourself what firmware version you want(official).
