phone becoming unresponsive after clearing cached memory..!!

Recently I cleared the cached memory of my phone when I found that it was over 500mb but as soon I cleared it the phone went unresponsive the screen went off and didn't turn on again. I waited for say 10 mins but in vain then I finally forced turned off it.
Next time I again cleared the cache memory when it was over 50 mb but again same problem happened..! Any idea why it is happening

Did you use a third party application to clear the cache of the phone as a whole or did you clear the cache of a particular application through the phones settings?

No I didn't use any third party app for clearing the cache. I just cleared it from storage>cached data and after that phone went unresponsive..

Force shut down your device(by pressing the little button on the back of your device).Turn it on normally after.

@alexdon u r not understanding what I'm saying, I know the solution, read my first post. What I'm saying is why my phone become unresponsive when I clean the cached data.!!

I cannot say for sure,it could have been that you had plenty of data and some of it could only be removed it the device was restarted.
