trying to transfer videos from phone to computer but doesnt seem possible as cannot access file manager on pc companion, any ways around this on how i can get the videos onto my computer???

If you get your phone connected to your PC you should be able to use the file explorer in your PC to access the internal storage of your Xperia U > DCIM where you should find your videos.

If you can't get the phone connected to the PC I suggest that you start with reinstalling PC Companion:
