Notification Sounds over Bluetooth

I am generally really happy with my Xperia Z1 but have a really annoying problem ...

I dont get notification sounds through my bluetooth headsets when connected to my Z1.  None .. not sms notifications, email sounds, game push sounds .. nothing.

I tried several headsets .. a Plantronics Voyager Legend, a Jawbone Icon and a Jabra Extreme 2.   All good headsets but none receive notification sounds from my Z1.

All 3 headsets do get the notifications from my wife's Huawei and my old HTC. 

So this indicates that the issue lies with my Xperia Z1 ...  asked support for help and got the obligatory 'not Sony headsets, so we dont support it'  then 'make sure you have the latest software'  and  then 'do a master reset' 

Cant get a straight answer from support as to whether the Xperia Z1 should play notifications over bluetooth or not.  Still have emails currently going back and forth about this.

Tried using Soundabout app with mixed success .. doesnt quite work properly either.  Notifications of a sort play most of the time but not all the time and it is not the sounds I have set for each type of notification.

I would like to know if other people have this issue too and if anyone can suggest a solution.

Have u got bluetooth media audio enabled in the connected device setup?

Yes .. both Media and Phone Audio both connected and selected fine.

It turns out that the Sony Xperia Z1 is not designed to play notifications over Bluetooth.   

I have had this from Sony this morning ....

'Dear John,

Thank you for contacting the Sony Xperia support centre.

We can advise that the playing of your notification tone, through a bluetooth headphone device, is not supported by the Sony Xperia Z1 handset.'

To say that I am disappointed and amazed is a complete understatement .. I bought this phone because I wanted a premium phone and trusted the brand of Sony.  Now I find out it cant even do basic things that we all need from a phone.  

In my case I drive a lot and need to use a bluetooth headset .. and I missed a notification from my ex that my daughter had been taken to hospital because the phone wouldnt play a sound over bluetooth.

Guess that leaves me looking for a better phone.
