Bought one of the worlds worst phones and wondering how Sony can away with it...
1) 20M camera LOL
Main reason I bought the phone, and its useless.
The so called 'Manual Mode' is not Manual mode as you have no control over Apperture or Shutter speed which is exactly what Manual mode is.
Any comments on this blatent lie?
2) Polarised screen
So when I try to use the device in landscape mode with my sunglasses on the screen appears black, as in cant see a thing, as in its totally useless.
So you end up looking like a **bleep** when taking pictures or movies in landscape mode because you need to keep removing your sunglasses.
Worse still cant use the the device as in car navigation in landscape mode when I'm wearing sunglasses. Useless.
I think this key feature should be mentioned in the sales literature as it sure that the bullet feature 'not possible to use with sunglasses' and watch those sales figures fall.
3) Screen made of scratch attracting plastic.
After 1 month the screen looks scratched to death.
Previous Originonal Xperia (3 years old?) is less scratched and used in exactly the same way
Samsung 1 1/2 years old also in almost perfect condition.
Generally cheap low quality solution.
I could go on and on about how un-usable this rubbish phone is.
Looks like it will end up being a little toy for my 3 year year old girl as its not a decent phone for someone who has years of experience and knows what they want from an android phone
You are saying some "interesting" things for someone who claims to have multiple years of experience with Android phones.
Why do you need manual control over a fixed aperture?
In manual mode, you can control EV. Since aperture is fixed, the only things left to control are shutter time and ISO.
I can understand you want more control over shutter time, but saying you have no control is a blatant lie.
I have tried two sunglasses and even (polarised) 3d glasses, but the screen stays visible for me in both portrait and landscape. There are different types of polarisation, so can you tell us what kind of sunglasses you have?
Perhaps different screens are used, so can you tell us the production date and the country you bought the phone?
I think the production date can be found in the sim tray.
The back is made of plastic, but the front is glass.
Can you explain a bit more when you say that the screen is made of plastic?
@Z1C_Worst_phone
1. Manual mode indicates that you can manually adjust settings that are not able to be adjusted when in superior auto mode.
2. Certain levels of polarisation on glasses can impact the visibility of the display, this is something that is quite common with certain displays.
3. Please be aware that the display has an anti shatter film, the purpose of the anti-shatter film (ASF) is to make the display
withstand being dropped from greater heights. The anti-shatter film has a positive effect on the sensitivity and accuracy of the touch screen. In the unlikely event of the glass cracking, the ASF can protect against cuts.
What are your thoughts about this forum? Let us know by doing this short survey.
Is a term that comes from the SLR world, really relevant in the smartphone world where most phones have a fixed aperture?
As a real experienced person, you should know you can never trust or assume something, you should read up and check it.
You are not very clear on what you think are "advanced" photo effects.
It could very well be that the phone will up the ISO to compensate the faster shutter speed in Sport Mode.
But it seems you are dismissing control over ISO as an "Advanced" photo effect, as you claim it is not considered a "Manual change".
You can brag about your experience with smartphones and photography, but what's the point?
Because I started shooting with a SLR more than 25 years ago and I have developed for the Nokia Communicator, does this make me a smarter person? And besides, on an internet forum anyone can claim anything.
And instead of putting your energy in asking stupid questions if I wear 3D glasses in public (well, I do in 3D theaters), you could also realise that I was trying to figure out if the problem is caused by the type of polarisation.
And no, so far Sam only acknowledged in this thread that sunglasses can have an effect on the visibility and that's not the same is not being able to view the contents of the screen.
And it looks like you're not the kind of person that thinks outside the box. It is possible to remove the anti shatter film and expose the hardened glass, probably making it more scratch resistant. So it's likely that additional protection isn't the only way to make it more scratch resistant.
Why do you keep comparing your SLR experiences with this phone?
That doesn't make any sense at all.
And why do you keep referring to aperture, when you should know by now that it has a fixed aperture?
Isn't automatic mode doing exactly what you could expect from automatic mode?
When you want to control things, isn't it normal you switch to manual mode?
I know, it's not the manual mode you expect from the SLR world, but hey, this is a smartphone.
When you say this phone only has the use for you to put it through a G-shock test, why are you worried about warranty?
But it still falsifies your statement that the only way to make it more scratch proof is to add protection.
Why do you expect macro mode, when it has a fixed aperture?
Again, this is not a SLR!
How many more times do I need to tell you that?
As you told someone else in another thread, please read more careful!
You are so locked in your rant mode, that you keep making the same mistakes over and over again.
You can choose other modes by going down to 8Mpx.
Just to be sure, did you upgrade to firmware 14.4.A.0.108?
I just tried the camera again and in a medium lit room, the focus takes around 1 second for me.
It takes a bit longer with the flash activated.
Why is ISO not considered a common adjustment in the digital age, when for instance dpreview tests cameras with multiple ISO settings? When you can change EV and WB, that means calling it fixed mode is completely wrong.
How can you claim you have muiltiple years of experience with cameras and smartphones, when you make stupid remarks like that?
We do understand it doesn't work as you expect, but you are going over the top in your reaction.
I assume you mean flash bleed.
Do you have the black model, or a different colour?
You can try to take it to a sony service center and try to convince them to give you a new one.
It seems the flash bleed was countered in later batches.
Some people have countered flash bleed with a black marker on the metal ring around the camera.
You can also try if you get better results with the stock Android camera.

Regarding the polarisation of the screen, why didn't you follow up on what I asked you to do?
So as you can see, I did mention it, you just failed to read it!
And the same goes for the Sony specs. Get out of your rant mode.
There is no need for Sony to change the specs.
Just because the phone doesn't live up to YOUR EXPECTATIONS, doesn't mean that the spec sheet is wrong.
