Not booting after SD card damaged error

My xperia M suddenly shows some error notification saying "SD card damaged, Try formatting". If I try restarting phone by turning it off, not able to turn it on again. I have to remove battery and plug again to turn on. Please give me a solution to fix this.

What happens if you remove the SD-card, does the phone restart correctly? Have you tried to format the SD-card yet to see if this can help?
