No Wi-Fi proxy option in Android 2.3

I have Xperia Mini (ST15i) now running  Android 2.3.4. There is no Wi-Fi proxy option. (I have seen this option in Android 2.1.) I cannot use the Wi-Fi network available in our office which uses proxy server. I searched the Android Market and came across some apps, some requiring to root the device.

Kindly suggest.

Xperia mini as default does not support this unfortunately and I'm not sure if this is something that can be enabled using a third party app.

Managing with the mobile network only. Hope future Android versions include this important function. Thanks for your responses.

I was almost frustrated with my Android phone (V. 2.3) when I found a solution.  I downloaded Opera for mobile from http://www.opera.com/mobile/download/ or you can go to Android Market.

Do the following:

1. Download the package (ver. 10 or the latest)

2. Install the application

3. Open the Opera browser

4. In the URL, type opera:config, at this time the Preferences Editor should have opened in your screen.

5. Scroll down to proxy menu.

6. In the HTTP Server and HTTPS Server, enter your proxy setting with the following format :.  Ex. Proxy: 192.168.1.1 Port: 3128, type it as 192.168.1.1:3128

Note: There's no need to check or uncheck some of the Check boxes such as Default (unless you need to set it for yourself)

7. Restart if requested then.... BOOOM.  You should have now internet.

Tips: You can use Opera to browse when you have proxy; You can use your default device browser if you access a WiFi without proxy. You will be prompted by your device which browser to use anyway.

My friend had an Ipad and did the same.  It worked!

Hope this will help.
