I lack the functions of voice dialing and voice recording on my new Xperia arc. I've just updated the softwear, but nothing happened. The programs are mentioned in the Settings - Applications - Manage applications - All, but the all "buttons" (for Force stop, Clear data, Move to SD card aso) are inactive.
I have to mention that the phone acts whirred when connected to power: there is a lot of chaotic activity whithout anyone pushing any buttons. Some icons were deleted, some text typed in aso.
There is no voice dialling or voice recorder on the Arc.
You will need to download and install 3rd party apps from the Android Market.
You can try this app.
Vlingo Virtual Assistant.

If as you say your phone seems to be acting weird, can you try to perform a software/firmwware repair using PC Companion.
Connect your phone to the PC via the USB cable
The repair option on PC Companion (Support Zone --> Update --> Repair).
Please backup your phone data and settings before proceeding.
If that did not work, can you try the SE Update service

Download, install and launch the update service. Follow the onscreen prompts.
Please backup your phone data and settings before proceeding.
Voice recording isn't on the phone as standard, but Voice dialling is - its integrated into Google's Voice Search (not quite sure why) and its called Voice Actions.
if you go into Voice Search, and tap the help button, you'll get a demo of how it works.
I since did the update. I discovered the phone starts acting alone only when connected to AC power source. However, it seams to be a problem with the local power grid: it's not stable enough. Newly, I'm only loading the phone battery via PC or car battery. It works fine.
I searched and activated voice actions from Google. I also tried a similar program from Vlingo. Both are of no use: a weird voice tries hard to pronounce the names of all persons in my favorite menu. Regardless of the person who is actually calling, I'm hearing all names.
Just as in the Elm phone or the K 810i before it, I need to be able to make a personalized connection between a name and a certain phone number (within Contacts menu), so I can hear the name of the person who is calling, just before the phone starts ringing. I've also tried some voice recording apps (iRecord, Voice Search, Voice Caller ID, Call Recorder) : no success. You may think: "this is what different ringtones are for". But I'm not able to make any connection in my mind between a ringtone and a person. Recording my voice saying a name and making it a ringtone is an even more cathastrophic approach to the problem, since it's a priority to hear the phone ring, not the name called out for all to hear. If there is no solution to this problem, I'll end up regreting my good old Elm.
I hope someone from Sony Ericsson reads this: how come my "primitive" Sony Ericsson K810i has a secondary camera for Video call, but this fancy phone doesn't!?
