After making a call I cannot hear ringtone or person after they answer - although they can hear me.
The problem disappears if I put my phone on speaker dial.
Pressing the mute icon has no effect.
Hi,
I suggest that you test your phone's earspeaker in Diagnostics.
You can find Diagnostics under Settings > About phone. After starting Diagnostics you choose Test, then Ear speaker in the list of tests.
Thanks Christofer, have done that and the ear speaker failed. Only got the phone on 3/8/15 through Talktalk - what would you suggest should be my next move?
Could you reboot your phone into safe mode and do the Diagnostics test again? All third-party apps will be disabled in safe mode so if the test succeeds then this could be caused by a downloaded app.
If the test fails in safe mode as well I would recommend that you try a software repair via PC Companion.
In PC Companion you press start on "Support Zone" > Start on "Update the phone/tablet software" > "Repair phone/tablet" (the blue clickable link in the message) > Follow these steps without having your device connected to the PC.
Follow the instruction that appears in the program and do not connect your device until this guide tells you how to connect it.
The software repair will remove all data stored in the phone so don't forget to make a backup in PC Companion before you try the software repair. You can do a backup using the Backup & Restore option in PC Companion.
