se community, erm thanks 4 nothing! after 2 weeks of this problem,(3days on here) i have found a fix!(on youtube) download ringdriod (from android market on your phone) it is free and lets u set whatever mp3 ringtone u have on ur phone 2 text alerts.
HI all...firstly a relief to know I'm not the only person with a silent ringtone, but still frustrating that there seem to be no answers. I had written to Sony for advice and the steps they sent back, are no different from the manual - no help and problem still not sorted!!
Only just seen this query but my answer would be to use HandCent Sms, cool free app from market and hugely customisable with notification sound being one of them.
Also use app called Quick Settings which gives you surprise surprise quick access to your settings. You can select volume and it gives you the volume levels for things like ringer/notification/media/alarm etc on one screen. That might help too.
