Memory cards do not need activating if installed correctly but it may require formating.
go to settings - sd card and phone storage - and then there should be a menu telling you about your sd card.
If it is already mounted then it is working correctly if not then click the format sd card and then mount sd card wen it has finished. This should solve the problem. If not make sure the sd card is inserted correctly.
