Hi, my phone was playing up last night -saying that there was no service and everytime I tried doing anything it kept showing messages saying that whatever had stopped unexpectedly and it needed to Force Close. I ended up turning it off and when I turned it back on this morning all my Contacts has been wiped. I've tried to go into Backup and Restore but each time I get a message up "The application Backup and restore(propcess com.spritemobile.backup.semc2) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. - Force Close".

I've looked at previous threads and I've tried synchronising my google account but it's taking forever and not seeming to do very much. I've also tried re-adding some Contacts and although it's saying they're saved they are nowhere to be seen! Conversely I've managed to assign people to my text messages and their Facebook pictures etc. are coming up, but still nothing in my Contacts. Any suggestions please?

Don't know if this is of any relevance but i didn't do the last SE update as it wouldn't work so I gave up and I've been studiously ignoring the update notification ever since.

on your COMPUTER go to your gmail -> click on Contacts, do you see all your contacts there?

if you do see them all then

since you already backed up everything, you can either repair it with either PC Companion or Update service or you can do a factory reset

settings -> privacy -> factory reset this will delete apps, sms/mms, contacts etc.

Thanks uliwooly-wooly for your help. No my contacts weren't in my gmail. However I went into PC Companion as suggested which updated my phone, which in turn stopped all the messages coming up and which enabled me to get back in to my Backup and Restore and get most of my Contacts back in (missing a few added since last backup done but hey ho!).

you should really look into this other apps to sync and backup your phone

How to install it

You need to

go to settings -> applications -> check unknown sources

download IO File Manager

download the backup & restore app, transfer it to your SD card, use OI file manager to find it -> tap on it -> install it

Contacts

just to play it safe sync your contacts w/ google if you haven't already

open your phonebook

press MENU button -> tap on Send Contacts -> select all -> send it to your email

on your computer

-> download the file -> go to your gmail -> click on contacts -> click on more actions -> on the drop down menu click on "import" -> choose the file -> and click import

Apps

Don't worry so much about backing up your apps

on your computer go to

market.android.com -> log in -> click on My Library -> and send all your apps to your phone
