Hi biccus
That is strange, do you use a third party keyboard/font application by any chance? If not I advise starting the phone up in Safe Mode to see if the issue is still present then. To start your phone in Safe Mode press the power key until the pop-up window appears that reads 'Power off' hold this option for a couple of seconds until it says Reboot to safe mode then press OK. Keep us updated.
Okay in this case I reccommend running a software repair on your handset as the issue is still present while in safe mode.
To do this, firstly download either PC Companion or Bridge for Mac for Mac users.
Note: A software repair will delete all user data however you can do a backup beforehand:
To back up your phone using PC Companion
1. Go to Support to install PC Companion on a Windows
computer.
2. When installed, start PC Companion on the computer.
3. Connect your phone to the computer using a USB cable.
4. Click Start under Backup & Restore.
5. Follow the on-screen instructions.
To back up your phone using Bridge for Mac
1. Open Bridge for Mac
2. Click the option that says Back up your Xperia Device under Manage Media
3. Follow the on screen instructions
Running the software repair on a PC
1. Open PC Companion then select Support Zone.
2. Phone Software Update.
3. Start.
4. Repair Phone
5. Continue
6. Accept data removal
7. Next
8. Wait for prepare
9. Select Phone
10. Follow the connection steps
Running the software repair on a Mac
1. Click on Xperia™ at the top of your screen in Bridge For Mac
2. Click Repair my Xperia Device
3. Follow the on-screen instructions
Hope this helps, keep us updated.
I think I know what problem you have. Dont repair your phone just yet!
Go to: Settings > Accessibility
Look for "high contrast text". If it is enabled, try and disable it.
