My email doesn't update itself

I just got my Xperia x10 mini pro today and so far I have noticed that my email doesn't update itself, I have to do it manually but it seems like the phone should be able to do that. I use a hotmail account on my phone and I would like to know if the email can update itself, if I have to wait for 2.1 to have this problem resolved or if it's just something that I'm missing. And sometimes the phone will say "Does not connect" when I do try to update it but it hasn't done it in the last few hours. In addition, there isn't any change in my real email account. I could read an email on my phone and still half an hour later that very same email will be considered new and unread. Is there any way to solve these issues?

In the email app, if you go to Menu>Account Settings>Email Check Frequency... what are you set up for?

I can't access it, I've already tried. In the main window where I can look at my outbox, inbox and such, nothing comes up for the menu at all. When I go into my inbox and press the menu button, all that comes up is "delete several". When I'm in an actual email and I press the menu button, nothing happens. There doesn't seem to be any settings for the email on the phone unless you're talking about a different place in the phone such as the actual Settings on the phone. I didn't entirely get what you were saying but I'm set up with Hotmail, I don't use gmail.

Hello again, the details I gave were for the X10 big but I assumed it would be similar in the mini, clearly another difference between the two phones!

In the mini if you select the Settings icon does it give you access to your mail settings there?

This is where it gets tricky not having the same phone in front of me to play with.

Perhaps this is where I step back and let someone else can step in and help who has a mini.

Yeah, I would figure the same myself but this would make the situation more tricky. I looked at my settings and unless I've looked in all the wrong places, I haven't found anything there either. I'll try to repost this post in the mini community since I doubt a mod will move it.

I have moved it but if anyone else would like to suggest more help or suggest a great email app for my situation, please feel free to do so, I could use all the help I can get.

I'm sorry I couldn't help you more.

The other alternative is a to use an email app from the market. I actually use something called K9, its a freebie and I have got on really well with it.  I actually had deleted the data from my stock app but I reinstated it to see if I could figure out what your problem was... epic fail on my part:smileywink:

It's totally okies, it is a baffling issue! Sony Ericsson should have been smarter about this, I might look for an email app on the market, I feel a bit more confident getting them and not worry they'll be useless because I use Tweetcaster over my Twitter Timescape purely because it's more well rounded. And I have heard of K9 as well from others so I will check it out. Just sucks that my phone stock email app couldn't handle this.

I've tried K-9 mail and it's horrible! I took it off almost as fast as I added it. I doesn't update, still same POP issues and everything. Is there anything else I can use? Is there a better app for emailing that I should look for when x10 series upgrades to 2.1 or am I stuck with this crappy email service simply because I don't want to use gmail? I had a Window Mobile phone previously and that did everything perfectly (I'm aware that Windows owns hotmail so that's probably why), I want service like that again.

Once I got K9 set to my liking I haven't looked back, but I have also heard good things about Maildroid.  You could give that a go, think its a freebie.

there must be an option to set the frequerncy your mail is checked - either in the properties for the individual email, account or in the sync options.

Just becasue it's not where you'd expect it to be, doesn't mean it's not there - are you sure there is no settings tab in the email menu?

I must admit that these phones do seem to work best with gmail.

How about this for an option.

Set up a forwarder on your hotmail account to send it to a new gmail account then set that up on the phone.

On your gmail account, in the settings, change the reply from address to your hotmail one.

Instant 'push email' and no need to worry about sync problems Slightly_smiling_Face
