With my Xperia Z Ultra I have some problems with Exchange Active Sync regarding forwarding of emails, and receiving of emails with attachments. The problems do not appear with POP mail accounts. Anyway, the problems appear also on a new Xperia Z Ultra (an exchanged phone due to a broken display).
Phone is a C6833 with Android 4.4.4, Kernel 3.4.0-perf-g0109737. MS Exchange 2003.
Problems in detail:
- Forwarding of emails: Sometimes forward emails stay in the outbox on the phone without being sended. This problem occurs only if the forwarded text is not included in the mail text, but separated (don't know how to phrase it, but the text is display uneditable in a separated area). As mentioned, the problem occurs not with every mail. Forcing the phone to send manually (by pressing send) has no effect, the mail stays in the outbox. When including the forwarded text in the message body, the messages get send without problem.
- Receiving attachments: When receiving an email with multiple attachments of one filetype, in the attachment list of an email only the first attachment is shown but repeatedly, i.e. three different jpgs attached to an incoming email are shown as three times the same filename. Opening one of this three file items in the list always open the same file. If the email has different filetypes attached, it is always the first file of a filetype, that gets displayed. E.g. ["a.jpg", "b.jpg", "c.doc", "d.doc", e.doc"] leads to a list ["a.jpg", "a.jpg", "c.doc", "c.doc", "c.doc"], you have no chance to access "b.jpg", "d.doc" or "e.doc".
I restarted the phone, I cleaned the application cache, I even exchanged the phone (see above). So it must be a real software problem.
Help is highly appreciated, as the phone is not usable in a business context this way - which would be a pity, as I am a big fan of the Z Ultra in all other regards.
Cheers,
Rick.
Hi and welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.
Sorry to hear that you're having issues with ActiveSync.
Can you please confirm the the server you are using is Microsoft Exchange 2003 and not a 3:rd party server with support for ActiveSync? The issues you're having sound very familiar to issues we have investigated before and which occur when connecting to some 3:rd party servers that are not fully compliant with ActiveSync.
If you are using Microsoft Exchange, would it be possible for you to ask your IT-department for a test account on this server that we could get access to?
Hello. You mentioned you met issues with 3rd party ActiveSync server. We do have such a solution with IceWarp mail server and ActiveSync when no attachemnets are being downloaded or even displayed in phone. Do you have a solution for this, please?
No attachments with IceWarp is something we have investigated but i'm afraid i don't have any solution for it as it's caused by the server.
This is the information i have about it:
No attachments are sent via the sync Add(Sync) element when specifying mime always in the mime support tag and mime in the body type in the Sync command. Even though you can get the attachments from the raw mime data, there is a possibility to do a truncated MIME sync (which we are doing) and then you will not be able to retrieve the attachments from the raw mime data as it is truncated. So you always need to send the attachments even if mime is requested as a body type. This is how all microsoft servers work and all other third party exchange servers we have tested, except IceWarp server and the Zarafa server. And they have an open bug in their backlog about this. (https://jira.zarafa.com/browse/ZP-534).
