Mounting an SD card in the tablet

Hi I don't know if I'm being stupid or just can't figure this out - just bought the new Z tablet, wifi only version and want to use an SD card to increase the memory and transfer files etc. I've bought a micro SD card this evening, but I can't get it into the machine. I've looked under the cover where it says the sd card fits and I have two slots - one with something in (the existing memory I assume) and an empty slot , but its too tight for the sd card.

Meanwhile if I look at the storage function under settings, it says "mount a sd card" but I have no idea how to - don't want to force the card into the slot as I don't want to break it!

Any help gratefully received.

Thanks, Andrew

I too found this extremely hard and was confused by the image in the manual.

PDF Manual:

http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/support/tablets/xperia-tablet-z-wifi/support-documents/

The 2 slots are for a Micro SD card and a SIM card. The SIM card slot is the "one with something in", presumably with the WiFi version (which you and I both have) a filler is placed in the SIM card slot by the manufacturer since it is not functional.

The manual clearly says the Micro SD card must be inserted with the gold contacts face down. Doing so I could not insert the card. After a lot of umming and erring I realized that the diagram in the manual shows the tablet upside down. When I tried inserting the SD card with the gold contacts face up, I managed to get it in and you have to push it in quite far until it clicks into place. It looks like it will be very hard to get out again but I haven't tried that yet.

I inserted it with the tablet powered off and suggest you do so too although the manual is quiet on the issue. Once iserted, boot the tablet. On the bottom right of the screen tap the information bar (power levels, etc.). I had a message asking if I wanted to format my SD card - even if your's is already formatted I'd expect there to be some kind of message about the SD card having been inserted.

Hope this helps,

Matthew

Cheers Matt your answer really helped! Took the plunge and it all works! Thank you. It's such a great piece of kit but I think their manual needs to be a bit clearer. Best, Andrew

Glad to help Andrew. Technical manuals are so very often horribly badly written. Companies could save so many support staff hours by investing in decently written manuals.

I have an SD card that is stuck in my tablet upside down because of this lack of clarity in the manual, can't get it out.

Try to use the tweezers to take it out slowly. If not working out, visit a nearby sony centre.

Thanks Alex,

I can't get a grip on it with tweezers, I'll see if my nearest Sony centre can help.
