when i receive the mms...the phone says "Message not downloaded" in italics...it's fine...i long tap and select download message...the E appears above the signal bar and start to download the mms...(error begins here) in the mean time if i receive sms in the same thread, the sms received will have italic text...has anyone noticed it???

I have had that problem since I got the phone. I assumed it was due to my service provider. Every now and then a regular text message appears in italics. I have no idea why.

i have this problem all the time with mms. for me its coming down to a couple of things.

1. optus (my carrier) has pathetic coverage in my area

2. im always in gsm mode....i notice if i enable 3g mode. the message will usually come down straight away. however i cant enable 3g mode constanly cause of point 1

3. i find most of my mms messages are just over 300kb (eg 340kb)...and i know the normal maximum size is 300kb. however like you, if select download message. it will eventually come down.

anyway ive tried speaking to my mobile carrier about the bad reception....but nothing can be done about it...as "they would have to install more towers"

so yeah...dont be too worried...i just have lived with it..

although, i never had this problem while using a nokia 🙂

it's not because of the service provider for sure...i used the same sim card and same carrier on ics...this appreared right after the update. well i am living with this...sony fixed the major bugs but minor ones are still there out on large...in my view sony was great when it was sony ericsson...just today my E sign disappeared, it doesn't show now, just the two arrows for data activity...

some of the messages are sent in italics...i have sony ericsson j210i, i have an option to underline the text, make it bold or write in italics in the text message, so it can be possible that the person is sending you the message in italics...but i asked my friend who has xperia mini, he send in default font/style...so yes the problem exists on my end...

anyway it's not a big issue but a complete list of bugs should be presented so that sony can easily fix them

yeah, cant really say if i had the problem under ICS, as i wasnt on that version of android for very long, and i cant remember.

Dont be worried about the "E" that, i think it just means it was using the EDGE protocol/transfer method at the time. It will change depending on your location/signal strength etc etc. from one protocol to another...eg it can go from 3g to edge and vice versa..etc etc.

You can press and hold on the message "Message not downloaded" and then select to download message.

If this doesn't help I suggest that you remove your MMS APN settings from settings > more.. > mobile networks > access point name. Then download new settings from settings > Xperia > Internet settings.
