Hi,
My SonyEricsson Xperia Arc (model LT15i) has started to give me problems in messaging.
When I press the icon for messaging it'll take me to the messaging menu, no problem there.
The problem starts though when I choose a recipient that I have already had messages from OR even when I create a new message to someone. If I made an error by choosing the wrong recipient, for example, or I change my mind to send the message to someone else, or even not send one at all, I CANNOT go back to the list of previous messages when pressing the "return arrow" button.
When pressing the arrow button on the phone it takes me back to my home screen. If I then press the messaging icon again, it takes me to the message I don't want to create!
How on earth can I fix this? I have done the turn off-turn on method. I have done a settings reset, but still no success.
Can anyone help? Will a factory data reset help? I will only do this as a last resort as I really don't want to lose information.
Look forward to reading your helpful replies.
Do you have lots of stored messages? It seems that sometimes having toooooo many messages can create weird problems. You can use an SMS backup app from the market to save any messages you want to keep. The one I use allows you to browse them in thread view still so you can easily refer back to them.
The other thing you could try once you have tried the above is using a third party messaging app to see if it lets you do what you need (sometimes it kick starts the phone into behaving). I use Handcent as my preferred SMS app over the stock one.
Let me know if any of the above helps.
Hi,
Thanks for your response.
I have deleted a lot of messages (especially MMS) and that has freed up some internal memory, BUT that hasn't helped. What I have noticed, since putting this post on, is the same problem exists when using the app Color Note. So maybe there's a more deep rooted problem with the return arrow?
How does Handcent work? I've had a look at the app and it's features without downloading it, as I'm concerned as to how much extra I might have to pay for sending an sms & mms. I have a contract with a mobile telephone operator would there be extra charges? ie: everytime i use the app will it take up my allotted mb usage per month? (obviously though not when i'm not using wi-fi).
just empty the messaging app and restart your phone
Handcent is simply a programme that gives you a different look and more customisation to your text messages. It doesn't cost any more to use it rather than the one on your phone, it uses your normal sms allowance on your contract. In fact it does have an advantage because you can set it not to convert large texts to MMS but keep them as SMS. On my contract my texts are free but I have to pay 20p for picture/MMS messages.
You won't be using your data package other than to download it and obviously if you are on a wifi network then you won't even be using that.
As mentioned before try backing up all your SMS to your SD card, have a look at these apps - I use the one by Ritesh Sahu. https://play.google.com/store/search?q=sms+backup+and+restore
Nope, still not worked. Done everything you have said. Blooming frustrating, as I have now also done a factory reset and still does it!
Thanks for your suggestions, if there's anything else you can think of then I'll give it a go.

Did all that, still frigging didn't work. Gonna throw it out of the window very soon. Thanks for your help, might just have to claim some insurance money back, as I still have the receipt.
that's odd so after you repaired your phone with SUS did you installed any app?
