Messages app is very slow

Hi,

i purchased a refurbished Z3 a few weeks ago and from the start the text messaging app has been very slow...sometimes taking up to 20 sec to open a message. MMS take even longer.

Then another issue is I often receive the same message up to 6 times, with ten minute intervals.

Any ideas on what i can do?

Firstly, clean the sim card, contact problems can cause repeated messages.
Secondly, back up your texts using 3rd party app then in settings, apps, find the messaging app and clear the cache and data.
Then restore texts using app and check again.

Hi @KS72,

I am sorry to hear that.

I'd suggest trying what @Viridis mentioned, but there are also a couple of more things you can check.

You write that the messaging app is slow since the beginning, did you transfer over messages from a different device? Try backing up your messages using a third party app like @Viridis mentioned or by going to Settings > Backup & reset > More > Manual backup > Select Conversation and where to store the backup. Once you've done that, download a third party app for cleaning out the messaging database, such as History eraser - Privacy Clean. Once you've deleted the messages, try to see if new messages load just as slow or if it's normal - then restore your old messages. Please note that I can't offer you support on third party apps.

Regarding the repeated messages, have you tried a different SIM? This may for example be caused because by a network disturbance. The sender sends a signal to your operator which in turn forwards the message to your device, your device then has to reply to the operator that you've received it. If there's a disturbance, your operator may not understand that you have received it and therefore sends the same message again. This could be due to a defective SIM.

No problem, let us know how it went!

Ok so cleaning sim (which was new anyway) didn't help so have ordered a replacement one.

Clearing Cache & Data didn't help so i'll try using a 3rd party app to clean it out completely.

To answer previous question...yes i did transfer my old texts from my Z1.

Perhaps that may have something to do with it then.

Try using an app to clear out the messaging database and see if that solves it before you restore your backup of messages and let me know how it went.

ok so i used a 3rd party app to clear the text history but as soon as i finished the phone kept re-installing them (except for the last couple of weeks)...so i did it the slow way and manually deleted all messages from 2015 and older.

So far everything is working better including the multible texts...they've stopped happening too!
Its still slower than my Z1 but much better then before.

Why don't we get promps to delete old messages? The old phones used to let us know when it was getting to full...:smileyworried:

I am glad to hear you were able to solve it!

I am not sure why there's no such prompt and I am not aware of there being such a feature in an Xperia. Are you referring to older Sony Ericsson keypad models?
