Memory Card Unexpectedly Removed (32GB Class 10 Micro SD)

Hi everyone,

In November I purchased a memory card from Amazon for my new Xperia T:

Sandisk Ultra 32GB Class 10 Micro SD Card with SD Adapter

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B007JTKLEK/ref=oh_details_o00_s01_i01

This worked at first, but after a month or so I kept getting a message on my phone saying the memory card had been removed. Turning the phone off and on sometimes solved this but often the error would come back within a few minutes. I'm now using the 8GB class 6 card from my old Sony Ericsson Elm and so far haven't had any errors (but then I didn't originally have any on the 32GB card for the first month or so).

I've returned this now and received a refund. At first I assumed it was a manufacturing fault as reviews against the item said other users of phones from other manufacturers were also having the same problem, however I've since read it could be an incompatability due to the fact the card is a high speed class 10.

Before I order another card can anyone tell me which 32GB cards are compatable? Should I order another class 10 or will I have the same problem? Or is it because it's a Sandisk 'Ultra'? I bought the fast memory card because I play back a lot of mp3 files and like to use the video camera (if that makes any difference on the speed I need).

Any advice will be appreciated!

Regards,

Stu.

I'd only use a cheap one for now, and don't keep anything on it you haven't backed up.

Xperia T is having issues with various cards , but no answer from Sony.

Do as miffy says.

The phone totally corrupted my Sandisk 32GB ultra, to the point that any computer is able to detect the card.

I have now a 8Gb, the cheapest I found and for now is still working.

Sad that Sony does nothing to fix the problem (I don't think they even know what's going on about the sd cards ant the xperia t)

Same problem here. Brand new Sandisk 32GB ultra class 10 in a brand new Acro S and had problems since day 1.

Photos missing, videos that can’t play, and even sometimes word, excel and pdf docs gone.

Couple of times I’ve even watched as the photo count in Album drops by the second as the photos disappear.

Disappointing really, bought the phone for the camera quality but can't view a photo/video that disappears!

Sometimes switching it on and off will bring photos back but sometimes not. Tried Sandisk recovery, reformatted/unmounted SD card and no luck.

Now I back up frequently and reload the lost photo’s.  Also I crop favorite photos and save them on the internal memory.  The internal memory seems more stable.

I’m going to try another slower SD card see if that fixes it.

It is a concern the number of comments about this issue.

I hope the slower card fixes it?

Blimey - thanks everyone! Sorry for the delay in replying - didn't get any notifications through from Sony till today and then I couldn't log in :-S

I hadn't realised there were so many problems! I hadn't upgraded to jelly bean when I started getting  errors, although I did get an update a week or to before Jelly Bean. I'm starting to wonder if it was that - I can't remember if I was having errors at that point.

Since I put  my old  8GB class 6 back in the phone I've not encountered any more issues, and I've also now upgraded to Jelly Bean so I'm really hoping it's just a class incompatability. However after seeing what you guys have said I think I may just wait a bit longer before buying another 32GB and definitly not get another class 10.....

So frustrating that Sony won't just come out and say if these phones work/don't work with each class. Saying they''ve only tested with class 4 isn't an answer - people are always going to buy the fastest class they can get and if these phones won't work with them then they should just say. Of course, the reviews on the Amazon page indicate Samsung users are having the same problem so maybe this is actually Android causing the problems?

Class 4 SD cards give the same problem. I have Xpera T with Class 4 32GB SanDisk card, and I'm getting the same problem described here. I downloaded an app from playstore that monitors the status of your SD card. Results for a 12 hour period (whilst the card was left untouched) are below...

SD card mounted: 141 times

SD card unmounted: 129 times

SD card bad removal: 12 times

SD card removed: 129 times

SD card ejected: 12 times

Come on Sony. You say Class 4 cards are OK, but here's proof they are not. Answers please!

Ah drat.... I'd really hoped it was just a speed issue?!

Would you mind letting me know the name of the app (or a link to it)? I'd be interesting to see if I'm encountering the same problems. Guess we can do Sonys testing for them :-S

As much as a like my smart phone, life was a lot easier with my old Elm! Although I'm seeing similar reports from Samsung users so I'm starting to suspect it's actually Android and problems with the card reader, not necessarilly just Sony to blame.....

Thanks! I'll try that and report back what happens when I've had it running a few days.

I got a Sandisk Mobile Ultra 32GB Class 10 Micro SD Card with SD Adapter for my Xperia T.  I was getting "Unexpectedly removed" a few times with ICS, but now with JB it does it a lot.  The phone now gets hot just lying on the desk doing nothing and the battery life is about 8 hours.  I've taken the card out to see if that's the cause.

Card won't read in my laptop any more, it wanted to format it.  Reads ok in desktop PC.
