My Sony Xperia Z3 Compact is just one month old and the magnetic charging port is already loose out. I found out that the port is just glue to the battery but not strong enough to properly embeded to the phone. This is obviously a manufacturing issue.
I sent the phone for Sony Care based after I have a chat with the Sony Support and the agent said it should be covered by the warranty. ( Because they charge you for "Handling Fees).
Now Sony want to charge the cost of almost half a new phone just to glue the port back to the phone. This is just ridiculous, is this how Sony warranty operate?
If this is the case, I hope all potential customer stay way from this or pray the phone never to need to be repaired.
Add another falling out magnetic charging port to the list. Mine made it 7 months before the glue let go. We shouldn't have to worry about how to detach the connector (in my case Magnector X2). It is a magnet. They are meant to be stuck together and pulled apart. The port should be better secured. This is an obvious design flaw. Thanks to the posts in this thread, I will save myself the headache of attempting a lengthy warranty claim. Has anyone figured out the best way to get the port to stay on (securely)?
Sorry to revive this old thread, but did anyone of you used the Sony DK48 dock? Or everyone uses Magnector adapters? I just bought a DK48 and I don't want to suffer what you all suffered with the port
If your phone gets messed up you don't have to go through Sony, but I wouldn't advise just repairing it yourself unless your expeirienced with this kind of device.
You can have this sort of repair done for around £20 to £30, and if anything does go wrong at least the people repairing it would be liable to replace the handset.
If you mess it up, or something else goes wrong further down the line because of how you repaired it, you litterally only have youeself to blame.
Also I don't think the magnetic port is very well made in general. I have a magnetic charging cable attachment that only works if I have a case on the phone. I've had the same problem with various docks, all of which where endorced by Sony, with the phone constantly disconecting and consiquently not charging.
I purchased a new Z3 Compact phone to replace my aging Xperia Ray, and received it this week. I took the phone out of the box, and partially charged it using the USB cable. Then, I tried charging it on the Sony DK48 charging deck that I'd purchased, and it wouldn't charge. It was then that I discovered that the magenetic port was pulling right out from the side of the phone. I was furious, as this was a brand new device. I was more furious after reading how so many more people had experienced the same issue. It's hard to believe that Sony would tell someone that this issue would not be covered under warranty, as it's clearly a manufacturing defect.
I think that in general, the products that we purchase these days have become incresingly poorly manufactured. It's very rare to find quality workmanship these days, as all that matters is that companies attempt to make more financial gain. That usually means the lowest manufacturing costs possible, and far less of an amphasis on quality controls. I can't help but think that this situation with the faulty charging ports are prime example of that.
I've been a supporter of Sony for many years now, and so have my family. I think that they've made some fantastic products, including the Xperia Ray, which I've had absolutely no problems with at all. It would be great to see them do the right thing, and stand behind their products 100%, like they should be doing.
I have contacted Sony regarding my broken Z3 Compact. I'm curious to see what they'll have to say.

I agree. I also think it has become a probably because they are trying to do much with smartphones these days which creates more points of failure than before.
For example, I have two HTC Incredible S smartphones in my house (they were the first smartphones my wife and I used), and both of these are still working well (after nearly 6 years).
In fact my wife is having to use her old HTC Incredible S because her Xperia Z3 Compact has been going through some issues ( /t5/Xperia-Z3-Compact/Sudden-Death-of-Sony-xperia-Z3-Compact/m-p/1120710#M21013 ) and that's with a phone that is not even two years old!
The thing is it is not the fault with the product that makes people leave a company - it is the poor support and service that does it.
And Sony's support - isn't that great.
I have just had the same issue with a Z2 phone, I use the DK36 charging dock and after 6 months the port just stayed attached to the dock one day. Sony say it is not a fault covered under warranty and they want £166 to repaire it. Not happy !!
