Can you try rebooting your device to safe mode, and then go to Settings > About phone > Diagnostics > Test > Ear speaker, can you hear anything here?
If you still can't hear anything, then I suggest trying a software repair using Xperia Companion. If that doesn't help then you can contact your Local support for assistance with having your device sent to service so that a technician may have a look at it.
Well I tried safe mode and it didn't help.
pc companion would be difficult as I don't currently own a pc, could I use my daughters chrome book?
ive just put the phone on charge, when it's at 80%+ I will bite the bullet and try a backup&reset.
if that fails i guess I will have to send it for repair. Just wish Sony had a local repair centre rather than having to put the phone in the post, I gotta say it was hard for me to switch to Sony after being a dedicated Samsung user for the past 6 years, but my brother persuaded me, I hope I don't regret making the change..
