Low on space

Low on space

Hello,

I keep getting an indicator on my phone that says 'Low on space - Phone storage space is getting low'.

I'm not sure why this keeps on occuring, ive practically deleted all my apps, and several other items. I even purchased a brand new memory card which is 8 GB and have inserted into my phone, although im not sure what to do with that. Is there any way I can store all my items into my new memory card? I'm not even able to enjoy my phone with this constant 'low space' indicator that keeps on showing up.

I purchased my unlocked phone a few months ago, and i'm still unsure of a few of its features. It would mean a lot to me if my question is answered.

Thank you,

Sara

I have had this problem too.  One thing that sometimes works for me is to go into the browser settings and clear the cache.  Not sure if this will help you, but because I have some apps on my phone I will need to do this to free up more space.

Unfortunately you can't store applications on your SD card, this feature is only available on Android 2.2 and above and these phones won't be receiving this upgrade.

I have an X8 which has the same size memory as the mini and have loads of apps on the phone, about 30 at last count.  I still have 39 mb free on my internal memory.  First of all, are you on Android 1.6 or 2.1?  On 2.1 you can turn off some of the apps that run in the back ground in Menu>Settings>Applications>Running Services.  These will then stay off until you reboot your phone.

If you are still on 1.6 then a task killer might help you manage your memory.

hi Suze, I'm use 2.1 ... it's such a downside to learn that applications installed is saved default on the phone memory...Therefore we can not maximize al lot of applications, since it solely depend on the internal memory.. Just felt sad, 16GB sd card is no help, just for the music and files..  THere must be software upgrade for this.... =(

Hey all,

Thank you for getting back to me. I have tried clearing the cache, and it has worked to keep space temporarily. Unfortunately, the 'low on space' indicator keeps on coming back these days. I've pretty much cleared everything from my phone. I even ACCIDENTLY cleared all my default ringtones! Now when I recieve a call, it does not play a sound. Is there any way for me to download the set of default ringtones that came with this phone? I really wish the internal memory situation was not this bad, i'm not even able to enjoy my phone, especially with the fear of 'low space' always showing up.

@ Suze. I'm on Android 1.6. Is there any way I can upgrade?

the first think you could do is to backup everything with backup and restore app and use PCC companion or Update service to "repair" your software, that will give you access to the deleted ringtones

or you can just download "ringdroid" from the market and create your own ringtones, if you want ringtones for your SMS/MMS then you should make them no longer than 8 or so seconds

and by using PCCompanion or Update Service you might be able to update to 2.1 but that's base on carrier, if you can't get 2.1 through that then you could use this method

download the flashtool and the firmware and flash 2.1 in your phone (this is the FREE way to do it) the other way to do it is to use a paysite like Davinciteam which does the same thing the only difference is that you pay

i have the same problem but i thought eventually i will be able to solve it. But now your saying you can only move apps to sd card if your on 2.2. How come we are not getting the update and hundreds of android phones are or have. I dont understand how you can make a phone, leave in this problem and not update it. What kind of company are you? I have no space to update my favourite apps or anything. I'm buying a different phone and it wont be sony ericsson after this.

Moving apps to SD card ie the Apps2SD feature is included in Android  2.2+. But, let me remind you buddy, that SE does not develop the Android  OS. It develops on the Android OS. Android is developed by Google. This  limitation of storing applications only in internal memory is a result  of Google's work on the Android 2.1 development process. SE or any other company cannot do anything about it. Neutral_Face

X10 Mini Pro has a comparatively less internal phone memory, I guess than other Android phones we usually see. Not to blame, as it is name "Mini" anyways. So, this wouldn't be a problem if its internal memory was quite larger.

Well, on the other hand, what the company can do is to develop update of Android 2.2+ for X10 Mini Pro. That is, an update on a new OS, which is huge. The problem can be resolved that way. For me too, that is the biggest drawback of Eclair in comparison with Froyo or Gingerbread. Slightly_frowning_Face

I, as an owner of a X10 Mini Pro, am also unhappy that SE is not going to provide a Gingerbread update to X10 Mini Pro (the Gingerbread update is only for X10). Crying_Face
