Lost Contacts after forced Sony music Update

Hi all,

Hoping for some advice here. Today my Z3 Compact auto updated Sony Music, it wouldn't let me not uodate! Now 80% of my Contact Favourites have been lost! Similar thing happened with the last Sony Update, but I managed to get most of them back. This time though no joy, has anyone else had this problem? I've checked the filters and everything is as it should be and I've tried the 'settings, apps, all, contacts' force stop and reboot, but it makes no difference. Never had this problem with any other phone and it's very frustrating and will probably send me elsewhere when I come to renew, shame, as I really like the phone apart from this niggle.

Any advice much appreciated.

Cheers,

Peter

@peteinnit

Are you saying that there was an update for the Music app and that deleted your contacts? if so, that's highly unlikely.

I will admit to not knowing much about this tech, but nothing else has changed on the phone except  for that update, so I don't know what else would cause it. Haven't used it all day since it auto updated this morning, then received a call with unknown number and when I answered it was a good friend who was in my favourites. I then checked my favourites to find most of them gone. It was either something to do with the update, or it's just done it on it's own, both scenarios seem unlikely I know. Any idea of a general fix, other than those I've already tried? Thx

@peteinnit

Apps could auto update if you haven't opted out

Playstore > menu > settings > uncheck auto update

the phone's software can't auto update, so that's out of the question.

I've already opted out of Apps auto update which is why I was surprised (and a little annoyed) I couldn't stop this one. I tried to swipe it off the screen and delete it, but the message it had was that it was waiting for wifi to update. I hardly use any apps so don't update what I don't use when I get notified of available updates. Looks like I'm gonna have to reenter contacts unless anyone has any other ideas about how to get them back.

Cheers

Are you sure there wasn't a system update or something else like in this case?

There wasn't any other update carried out, but I will try starting in safe mode, see if that brings them back. I'm already on Android 6.0.1, which also led to some contact being lost, but managed to get all but a few back.

Just rebooted in safe mode and contacts still not there. Does that mean they gone forever, or could they still be hiding somewhere? Have also tried re-importing from v-card and nothing changed.
