Lock Screen Laggy

Lock Screen Laggy

Was enjoying using my Z3 Compact but decided to encrypt it due to a mate having his phone stolen. Whilst the process completed ok, I am now bothered by the following:

  • With encryption enabled I can now only use PIN, Face or Password to unlock my phone. No idea why pattern has been disabled when it is more secure than the face recognition !!
  • With encryption enabled you can no longer back up your phone.....so although my data is protected on the device...if I now loose my phone or it is stolen, my data is lost.....makes no sense.

The maini issue is that now I have to enter a pin to unlock my phone, I am REALLY disappointed that the unlock keypad is really laggy, which means you cannot enter the pin quickly. I was even worse when screen tap feedback vibration was enabled but even now that is switched on the lock screen keypad is so unresponsive. Weirdly when you are in the phone and have to enter the pin to enter the security settings, the keypad works amazingly fast and each time.

I hope Sony fix this and the other issues with the release of lollipop or this will be the one and only Xperiea  I will end up buying.

OK will do. No idea why the backup fails to work post encryption as when you plug the phone into a PC it can copy and past files to and from the device without issue....as long as it is unlocked.

The lock screen lagginess seems to be a bug, which I hope they fix....or allow other methods of unlock combined with encryption.

When the phone is on and connected then the encryption key is live and will be able to encrypt files in real time and vice versa - Where as a backup won't copy the encryption key or should you perform a factory reset and then encrypt again you are doubtful to be given the same encryption key

I guess that makes sense...but then surely the backup process could take place using unencrypted files  (i.e. as if you are manually copying the files from the device) and the restore in the same way (i.e. the device handles the encryption / unencryption and the backup software just does its thing.

Just seems daft that you either have an encrypted phone or a fully backed up phone....but you can't have both. Hopefully Lollipop will help with this as it seems when this software comes pre-installed on devices they will be encrypted by default as with iOS, which means your device is encrypted without the requirement of a pin.

A backup creates a .dbk file which wouldn't decrypt your files so even the backup if possible would also be encrypted

Aye but if you rename it to .zip, you can open and interrogate the internally contained files.

Doh....I have tried using the Contact Us email page but it does not seem to want to submit the form. I have entered all the mandatory and optional fields and ticked the terms and conditions tick box but when I hit the Send button it does nothing. No Warning No Acknowledgment or anything. I have tried this on a few browsers and on my phone and can't seem to get it to work.

Well as an update, couldn't get the web email submit form to work from any browser so used the live chat instead. They supplied me with an email address to use instead. The team came back with the usual "perform a firmware reinstall / repair" but this did not solve the problem. They will now refer this to their software team to look into. Really hope that lollipop upgrade resolves this.
