Well, there are a ton of different launchers on Google Play. If you want to customize the user interface it can be good but some do use a lot of resources which might slow down the phone. My best tip is for you to try it out for yourself and see if you find anything you like.

Launchers are good way to personalize your phone, they will allow you to customize mostly every element of your homescreen, menus, app drawer, etc. Some of them will have a lot of graphic elements that may reduce your phone performance, some others are minimalistic and will be very light on your phone.

You need to give them a try, one by one, and test how they look and how the affect you phone performance. If you feel it's not good or it slows your phone, unistall it and try another one.
