It's still fairly early days for that. If you're particularly worried about warranties, etc. then give it a miss (for now at least).

BTW - I had the ICS version of CM on my old phone and didn't like it. Wasn't at all stable.

CyanogenMod - a popular Android ROM.

There are many kitkat based custom (including CM) ROMs for SP in XDA forum. Shouldn't attempt to flash these if not sure what you're doing. Need to unlock bootloader for some. Suggest you to refer XDA forum.
