K850i asks to insert correct SIM card

I thank you Dr_Chris for your immediate response on the above subject.  I wanted to immediately acknowledge.  But I could not find any button to click for that.  Even to open for this new entry I found difficulty.  After all I am very new to this.

Coming to the subject I repeat whole thing again.  "Today June2nd, 2011,  I set music on my k850i and listening to it keeping a little away from it.  After about an hour later I found it stopped and the screen started showing " Insert correct SIM card "  and the same SIM card being under use for nearly two years and SIM service is still valid."  I already tried with a new SIM working on another phone which also returned same message.  Further I have Sony Ericsson PC Suite 6.011.00 on my PC which had phone repair option.  I tried that also but it was of no avail.  I request all the members to spare time help me out of this problem..

This particular message can and does only mean one thing: The handset is locked to a network other than the one attached to your current SIM which would mean you would need to contact the original network to request a network unlocking code. How this has happened suddenly is a bit more difficult to explain and could be anything from the handset being reflashed or rest or that it was unlocked previously using third party tools which have now failed.

You're welcome for the help.Although I find it very strange that a network lock should kick in suddenly while listening to music, given the fact that the phone repair didn't solve the problem, it is possible that this is exactly what happened, although it could also be explained by hardware failure.I suggest you follow Sam's advice and ask for the network unlocking code from the network to which it was originally locked in to.Do you know which network this is? If you do, try inserting a SIM card from this network and see if it's accepted, in order to confirm that it's a network lock issue.

I got this phone set right by Sony Ericsson authorised customer service centre.  At that time also they had to sent it to their main Sony Ericsson (India) service centre at Banglore (India).  I understand they flshed it there with fresh OS of this mobile.  Can hearing music, which I did many times previously, this time bring about this whole gumut of this kind.  I have not played with any keys that ask for secret codes.  I have purchased this k850i from eBay as a second had offer.  After delivery I found this had programs related to UK.  This was changed to Indian situation support software, in previous repair by Indian Sony Ericsson.  Sir what is your advice for this?

That would be very strange as Sony Ericsson authorised repair agents cannot change the network customisation of our handsets from my understanding. As to how it happened I again could not answer with certainty but can only advise again that you contact the network the phone was locked to (which appears to be a UK provider) and request the network unlocking code. Based on what you have said it is likely that the seller had the handset unlocked using third party means before putting it up on Ebay to begin with.

I think the original network must be of UK.  I will not have SIM belonging networks in UK.  Is there any way to reset the phone to starting condition by hardware means and then reflashing.    The only one code it required was when it is switched on and that is four zeros.  Kindly guide me out of this. Even if I take to local service centre and even if they undertake I think they can do no better than earlier they did.

Unfortunately resetting the phone will not remove a network lock and the only way to resolve this I am aware of is sourcing the code through the network it is locked to.

Thank you for final clarification.  Keeping aside phone function, can I get any of the camera and other multimedia of this K850i into working something like flight mode.

Do the service centres keep the SIM of variety of networks around the world at least one in main service centre each country? I thank both of you for your good and timely responses.

No problem, however the answer to those two questions is no. The handset needs a SIM inserted for a network that it can respond to and the repair agents do not carry these SIM's.

Perhaps you can ask the Indian SE centre to help you locate the UK network that has the unlocking code, through the phone's IMEI (serial number).If that's not possible, you'll need to have the phone unlocked by other means (cable/patch), at least until you find which network it's locked in to.
