Hello community,
in the last few days I am thinking of getting a new smartphone. I'm fed up with my outdated Samsung Wave and it's weak Bada OS. I want to change to Android and in the end the Xperia S got my attention.
I read a lot of reviews and I concluded that this is a very respectable phone because of it's screen, design and other hardware spec.
However, the most reviews praised the Xperia S, but on the other hand I read many user opinions bashing it for its laggy performance and under average camera.
I'm very close to buying this phone but I'm really concered about these two issues (poor camera autofocus and laggy performance).
The confusion is even greater since some say they don't experience any problem with its performance (everything goes smoothly) or with its camera (works great and autofocus functiones well).
I hope you can help me out with this becuase I don't want to spend any money on a faulty device. If so, what would be a good alternative to this phone?
Thanks in advance.
Greetings from Croatia.
Hey there,
I am using SXS for almost half a year and i can say something about those two points which you mention.
Regarding AF of the camera... well from time to time i get an ill focus, but this is somewhere 1 to 50-60 photos( tbh 1 or 2 are all my mystake). beside this the camera can make great daylight outdoors/indoors pictures, very vivid and high res. The other hand is night photos or with little amount of light... the flash is good but no more than 2-3 metres. you can be really unsatisfied with them.
The performans is other hand... this all depends on the apps and the usage of the phone which is different to everyone. I have faced 2-3 system reboot for half year and very few "force close" situations. Regarding ram and so.... it's no secret that with GB we used to have more available ram than ICS, but at the end point I am very happy with the performance and the state of the system. Responding!
I am using 4.0.4 stock without any mods. I hope that i was helpful
Have a nice day from me
Sony Xperia S comes with 12 mega pixel camera with autofocus which capture really nice photos and because of dual-core 1.5 GHz Processor it works really fast. You can read full details here:

My heart would tell you to buy it, it is a beautiful design, fantastic screen and it feels like a premium device. My head however would tell you to buy a Nexus 4 or something else because the official support for the Xperia S has been abysmal.
Get something else, unfortunately Sony badly lacks of support and you'll have bad times for it.
The Phone is really good, is really enough for almost anything unless you want to play hard with it. I bought mine 08/12 and I'm happy with it but Sony is careless supporting this model also will be the last getting JellyBean.
If you want a phone with fast response, with the best display on the market, then go for it. And don't worry about the support.
Hey ,
I agree with them
- Sony is very careless supporting about this phone > Example : update to Jelly Bean ( http://talk.sonymobile.com/message/342525#342525 )
- this the camera can make great pictures
- but about response , this have a great response in Dual-core Phones
Xperia S have a brilliant loudspeaker , Audio Quality
I got this phone compare with Nexus , Galaxy S II ... and was successful
It's worth to buy it, but I recommend you to wait.
Sony will show 3 devices (apparently) at CES 2013, 2 of them are the Xperia Z and Xperia ZL, and they're great.
Yeah, Sony it's slow with updates but well, I have an Xperia S right now and I'm happy with it, it's running ICS without any problems. And I'm giving Sony a chance this 2013, if they do the right things with their 2013 phones, definitely I will buy one!
not at all, get the Nexus 4 or wait for the Xperia Z or ZL if you don't want to spend that much money wait for them to be released (Z & ZL) then the T/TL/TX should be cheaper
