Is it possible to transfer apps to SD card?

Hi! I've been using Z1 Compact (Android 4.4.4) for about a month. I downloaded many apps and games and my Android tells me that 75% of internal storage is in use. I save photos and videos on SD Card and I tried to transfer apps there too... but I couldn't find a way to do it. I clicked on App infos and there was no option like that. I tried using some apps from Google Play but it didn't work either.

Is it possible to transfer apps to SD card WITHOUT root? If not, do you know if there will be any update that will let us do it or this option will be available in Lollipop?

For now, that is not possible. And Google is trying to eliminate this option, don't think it will be available in Lollipop.

What a shame! I'm sure it was possible on my old tablet. This is so annyoing since so many games nowadays are like 2GB big, eg EA ones. Guess Google is trying to act like Apple. Wouldn't be surprised if they didn't allowed us to use SD cards at all in the future.

Android 5.0 Lollipop changes the way your SD card works — and that's a good thing

So do you think this will actually work? It might be just permission changes, not real changes allowing applications to run from the external SD without problems.

Google is not trying to act like Apple.

SD card access was restricted because of privacy and security issues.

Let's assume all apps can access all files on the SD card.

That means that all apps can access all unencrypted files, like your photos, possibly log files, and much more.

That's a possible privacy and/or security risk.

All apps still have access to their OWN directory on the SD card.

For instance the app NavFree can store maps on the SD card, but other apps can't look into that directory.

With big games, you can try to ask the developer to have the option to move data files to the SD card.

As far as I know, even with Lollipop it won't be possible to move apps2SD, unless you root.

What has changed, is that you can allow certain apps to have full read and write access to the SD card (that means, outside their own directory on the SD card).

As the link says:

"Simply put, this means that an app like Poweramp can now edit tags on the songs you have in the Music folder. Or a photo editor can save to the Pictures folder, and not just its own folder. Or a file manager can move files around on the SD card. All the developer needs to do is update the app with the new methods."

If they can not access all files from internal memory, what's the problem with not allowing them to have access to files like this on the SD card?
