I am trying to use google maps but it shuts down the screen even when in use.
Total useless thing!
Could you elaborate? are you saying that the screen turns off so you have to unlock the phone again?
if that's the case then
settings > display > sleep > after 5, 10, etc minutes
Yes... exactly! I put the phone with google maps and the route I chose, drive, and after a few seconds the screen goes blank. When I swipe the screen, I had to unlock it again, and again, and again... so it's useless... I can´t use it...
Seriously considering giving this Sony as a present to someone, and get back my old Samsung S4...
lol, that's not a phone issue, just check what I've said and that will solve the issue.
that's not a solution... even with 30 minutes, I could drive for 2 hours or more!
I have done that with my old samsung... set a destination, and drive, for up to 4 hours! it never shuts down the screen...!
by the way, that's an app-android thing. On my samsung (that's god I still have somewhere) I have 10 seconds for screen to go blank in case I am not looking at it (if I am looking at the screen, it doesn't shuts down), but when using google maps, waze, etc., it just stays on until I turn it off manually...
The issue might be the latest Google maps update, before under Map > settings > screen diming was the way to avoid this issue, perhaps your S4 has the old maps version
if you google around or check other forums, you'll see the same with other phones with the latest Maps update, the alternative is to use an app such as
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.synetics.stay.alive&hl=en
this is new.. so the operating system (Sony/Google) removes "standard" features, to let other companies profit from that???
That's not Sony, that's Google, as Maps it's a google app, Google releases the updates to that app. You should contact them and leave your feedback.
