internet running slow

hi.  i am using android version 2.3.3 on my sony xperia x10.  when i log onto the internet using the browser appt that came with the phone using 3G it runs really slow, my partner has a htc wildfire and can access the internet quicker on his.  at first i thought it might have been the browser so i downloaded another but that was even worse.

any suggestion on what i can do to speed it up

Hi, have a look at Network Mode.

Goto Settings>Wireless & networks>Mobile networks>Network Mode. Select WCDMA only or GSM/WCDMA preferred and test again.

You check this easily, if it's a browser (phone) problem or network problem by connecting to a Wi-Fi network with good coverage.

Check if you Internet is still running slow.

if i connect to wi fi it runs the same speed as my net book

Then try with what gwhispererz suggested. But it seems to me that this might be a network problem, if you get high speed via Wi-Fi.

First of all try clearing cookies,browser history and cache,avoid running electronic devices at once or do you use P2P (Peer to Peer) file sharing programs? If so then try turning the file sharing program off, as file sharing programs use up alot of bandwidth I faced the same problem ,after doing this i checked my speed from Scanmyspeed.com apparently my internet speed is faster than before.
If these doesn't apply ,there is a chance you may have a virus
