Ice Cream Sandwhich v ginger bread

According to Sony PC companion I can get Ice cream Sandwich for the Arc S.....

Will ICS make the Arc S run slower ?

If I upgrade to ICS and I don't like it can I go back to Gingerbread and how do i do it ?

You might want to check this discussion about user experience in ICS

For downgrade to GB from ICS, only option is to flash, check this thread:

Nopes, if you format your sd card and then install ICS it won't lag at all ( i hope)

Working quite fine for me ( Arc S )

There are 2 steps to downgrade

1) Official - handing in the smartphone at a service centre you can request to have it re-installed with Android 2.3

2) Unofficial- Flash Gingerbread using Flashtool, your warranty would get void ( see link above by Alanh)

For downgrading, another option is to send phone to your local Service Centre .... if you do not want to void your warranty.

Thanks for your help..... I just need a fast phone its a pity Sony don't allow down grades at home.... but you can upgrade from home.

How much would the down grade cost if ICS felt horrible to me ?

You will have to contact Sony to find out. once you do, please share the info

Uli is right, you need to check with your local Service Centre for the downgrading cost ....and keep us updated.

Sony just said -   If you do upgrade your handset it can be downgraded free of charge at a repair centre.

I will stick with gingerbread as I keep on hearing on blogs that Sony feel ICM is to processor intensive.... although the Arc S has a fast 1.4 ghz cpu .... its not dual core so ICM could slow the phone down more than gingerbread.

ICM sounds a bit like the "Vista of Android"..... Google need to make a "windows 7 of Android"

I just need all my apps to go to SD card so I can have more ram so I'll have to use this
