i want to reinstall my anddroid 1.6 so i dont have any at&ftat software in it. i tried to look for a site that will help me but i havent found any. Can anyone help
Try a factory reset. To do this go to Settings> SD Card, USB> Factory Rest.
If it does not work use Sony Ericsson Update Service (SEUS) software.
You can't get rid of the AT&T bloatware without rooting the phone. If you want information on this I would look at XDA Developers site, but ensure you know what you are doing if you want to go this route. It will also invalidate your warranty.
thank you for the suggestion, but i already tried hardfactory reset few times and it took me back to when i originally turned on the phone mid september. The factory reset put all the defaults and back to at&t things. it did not erase. i also used se update software and it always says my software all up to date. I just got the phone mid september and se software for x10 was June so no couldnt get rid of the at&t
Yes you are correct. Thats what ive been reading on other sites...XDA developers site as well.... but its too complicated for a newbie like me... when i have time to read through i will try it in the future.... I was thinking of saving my current os and all the apps associated with it. then download a 1.6 version without the at&t stuff. but i would have a softcopy of my original os. I will just wait for the newer version of my os. then try maybe in the future. You are right i know this will void my warranty. thanks again for the info. you have answered my question
No worries, I also use AndroidForums and have some good friends state side who are in the same boat and moaning about the strangle hold AT&T have put on the phone. You can't side load apps on to the phone, you can only download from the market as well as the bloatware.
I would hold off rooting until the 2.1 update has been released and the XDA boys have sorted out the new custom rom for that. All a bit out of my comfort zone, but lots of people do. Just gather as much info as you can so you make your own informed decision.
