Dear Executive,
I have an Xperia Arc which i tried to update from 2.3.3 to 2.3.4 but it always says 'your phone already has latest software' on PC companion. I tried to update using the SE update exe file as well but that also displayed that the phone already has the latest software, which actually is not the case!
Please let me know when would this new software/firmware update be available globally so that phone has the updated software on it. Does that take long time?
regards
K
The 2.3.4 firmware is currently being rolled out. The reason you are getting the message that your phone is already up to date, is because 2.3.4 has not been released yet where you live.
You can also try to perform an update from the phone itself if you wish.
Go to the settings menu ---> About Phone ---> Software Update --> Accept.
If you really cannot wait and want to have 2.3.4 on your phone now, you need to perform a manual firmware update.
Note: This is an unoffcial process. Any operator version of your firmware will be lost.

Please back up your phoen settings and data before proceeding.
Thanks for the response. Any idea how long it generally takes to roll out the update globally accross all regions?
Only SE knows. That being said, I have noticed that SE has been making the newer versions available quicker.
It was announced the 2.3.4 will be made available in the October time frame. It is still not the end of October yet.
Furthermore even if SE has released it for your region/market, if your phone is a branded phone, meaning and operator version, than it is up to the mobile service operator whether they want to make the firmware available to their customers.
I hope that you will get the updates soon.
Thanks. I have a vanilla handset uncontracted. So i should get these updates by end of October or early november as per your suggestion?
It could be possible but as I sadi before it also depends if the version has been released to your country/market.
I do not work for SE, so I can't confirm it.
In my situation, I got the update in September. I performed the update from the phone itself over the air.
according to this article

the update has now begun rolling out in Europe, India, Pakistan & Egypt.
Hi All
I have now got the udpate today on PC companion. I guess Xperia Arc 2.3.4 updates are available accross all regions now. You would get software updated from 2.3.3 to 2.3.4 and build to 4.0.2.A.0.42 which seems to be the latest.
The updated features look impressive with XLoud, option for themes, 3D Sweep panorama (which is generally found on sony cyber-shot cameras), zoom feature (though it's digital and only- 3x). Sony Ericsson should work on this feature to increase zoom and change to optical zoom.
Could not observe the landscape mode feature as the home screen did not changed to landscape mode on rotating the phone. Does that need to be activated on the phone settings somewhere? Not sure if it is applicable to Xperia Arc. But overall, it looks good hopefully should get better if SE keeps us up-to-date with new features and versions.
the homescreen won't rotate at all, you will need to download another homelauncher but certain widgets won't work on other launchers
