I've got a SE W880i from 2007 which doesn't turn on. After researching on forum threads like this: http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=691101 , I now know that I can fix it using the Sony Ericsson Update Service.
So I went and downloaded the *new* Sony Update Service, but it turns out that old devices like mine is no longer in the list! So what I then done was install an older Sony Ericsson version of the software. After installation, I opened the program but it then said 'Checking for updates', and then it automatically updated to the new Sony Update Service which doesn't support my old phone!
What can I do? Is there any way to keep using the old software without itself updating? Perhaps another way to fix my W880i? Thank you.
Run SUS in compatibility mode with windows 7.
I'm sorry to say that W880i is no longer supported by our system so it's no longer possible to update this model. It doesn't matter what version of Update Service you use as it will not be able to download software for your phone from our servers.
Well that **bleep**. Nokia for instance still provide downloadable updates for their 7-year-old phones. It looks like SE/Sony just ignored customers of older phones.
Well I think I should be able to fix the phone by flashing it using SETool. I'll have to search for and download the flash files first. Gotta charge that battery first though in order to flash!
